Unfortunately, a key player—Glue—is late, but when he (she? it?) shows up, everything comes together (literally). The book folds open to reveal a four-page-wide spread wherein all the various knickknacks have arranged themselves into an entire class of bizarre beings. It’s a payoff that will have many readers paging backward to find what parts of whom came from where. Though the palate seems a bit muted, Tillotson’s collage work, both creative and endearingly clunky, will awaken the inner cutter-and-paster in almost any young child. Bit by bit, putting it together Here's what they don't tell you in library school: You can try and learn to be a children's librarian all you want but there's one skill that is essential to your day-to-day needs and is innate. It cannot be learned. In a word: Craftiness. Not "craftiness" as in "skillful in underhand or evil schemes" (more's the pity). No, I mean "craftiness" as in how good you are at entertaining a room full of screaming tots using only wooden tongue depressors, googly eyes, and a handful of glitter. Craft programs are, for librarians like myself, sometimes almost painfully difficult. That's why it's often a blessing to find a book that will tie into such a program. Often this takes some creative thinking. I just read "The Wide-Mouthed Frog" so today we're all making froggy visors, etc. Maybe that's what's so great about "It's Picture Day Today!" by Megan McDonald, illustrated by Katherine Tillotson. Not only is it a story that, like the characters in it, comes together with panache but afterwards there's not a librarian alive who won't pluck at least a little inspiration from its fine and fiery pages. From yarn to coils to wheels to sequins, bouncy text and upbeat imagery explode in a fun new picture book creation. As with many stories for young children, it all begins with buttons. School doors open and a crowd of buttons sweep in. Naturally they are followed by the feathers, which in turn are leading the string, rings, and springs. A veritable cacophony of objects flutter, bounce, and jounce on by. The teacher takes roll, and everyone seems to be accounted for with one notable exception. Perhaps the most important object of all: Glue! In bounces glue and everyone jostles for its attention. When all is said and done, the teacher says brightly, "Don't forget . . . Say cheese!" And the room full of strange but benign objects grin now that they've formed themselves into various shapes and postures. Sometimes it just takes a little glue to pull yourself together. Word on the street has it that Ms. McDonald came up with the idea for this book while playing around with various craft supplies with her niece. There's a joy that comes when disparate objects turn themselves into recognizable shapes and objects. There isn't much text to this book, of course, but that's out of necessity. Too much talking and everything falls to shreds. The human brain is designed to see faces everywhere. It's how we're wired. We can't help it. We want to see faces everywhere that we look, and we do. Of course, it helps when the illustrator gives us a leg up. Ms. Tillotson's vast craft-related experience is on full-display here, no question. Though the book is entirely done in cut paper, you'll probably find yourself forgetting that fact more than once. You'll end up thinking the tongue depressors really were made out of wood, the ribbons are really ribbon, and the pompoms something other than just artfully torn paper fibers. There's also a real sense of energy to these pages. These objects aren't just vying for our attention. They're jostling one another to the side in order to take center stage. If you have a kid who makes even their crayons and scissors talk to one another, odds are they will instantly understand this book. If I've any objections maybe I'm sad that we don't get to see the class picture at the end. It would have been cool to see the teacher take the picture, and then see the final image at the end (maybe on an endpaper or bookflap) as a Polaroid. Ah well. One can't have everything. To sum up, this is a book for tying in a title to a craft-related storytime on the one hand, and for those kids who see playfellows in even the dust bunnies under their beds. It's peppy and fun title all around. A book for multiple needs with a bit of pep and kick to it. Good stuff. Ages 4-7.

Finally!
I've been looking everywhere for 4" DPNs. I could find some, but they were expensive or not the right size (no one seemed to have above a US4). Now I have everything from 0 to 10 in sturdy, smooth bamboo. Shipping was also fast and the price is fantastic.

Love to knit socks? Buy these!
I knit socks all the time, so when I found these 4" double-pointed needles it was amazing. Really helps when you get to the toe and knitting is in close quarters. My order came within a few days after placing it online, and I'm very pleased with the needles and use them with every sock pattern.

A great picker-upper
I don't have the xyron version of this, but I'd imagine they're all similar. Rub the corner of the eraser over an area with unwanted adhesive in gentle circles and it will pick it up. This works best with repositionable or tacky glues, some of the permanant glues require more work to remove.

It really works!
I bought this item, skeptical of how it would perform. I'm happy to say that it really DOES erase adhesive, easily and completely with very little effort! I highly recommend this product!

It works...
This little goodie does the job for the most part, although it can smear the adhesive around instead of removing it.

I was searching amazon for sewing supplies and came across this kit along with the SFSE book. This is so great that this kit is offered. It has everything I need to sew projects for years to come. Very Disappointed
First of all, I love this box but...my mother-in-law ordered this for me and I have to say I was disapointed. The picture shows the Workbox which is the largest one and the one I wanted. But, I did not receive the large one...I received the smaller one, the Craftbox. The picture is not what you get which is false advertisement. For someone who does not know any better or the product would think they are getting the larger one. They need to change the picture to what it really is. Also, I figured I would try to contact the company and see if they could send me the extra parts for the larger one but there is no phone number to be found anywhere!

Surprised at how nice!
We absolutely love our craftbox. Even though it sits closed most of
the week, it still just adds to the appearance of our home. We've got this
knotty alder version, and it's beautiful. I'm a little surprised the other
reviewer was so disappointed. The larger one and this one look the same, but
this one just isn't as deep. We didn't mind, as it cost $500 less.

Works well and lasts for years
I really like snaps on the shirts that I make. This pair of snap pliers makes it simple to add them. I have occasionally gotten one of the pieces misaligned and ended up with a prong not aligned, but I just pull it back off, straighten the prongs with a pair of regular pliers and remount it.

There is a very wide range of button colors available. You can also mount the snaps that don't have a 'button'. All that shows is a little ring of metal and those come in lots of colors also, so you can try to match your fabric and they don't really call attention to themselves, or use a contrasting color and let the ring show. Those are also much flatter than the button front ones.

I've even put a snap on the fly of all my boxer briefs. It looks good and prevents "escapes" and gaping. I remember pajamas when I was a little boy, and the fly front would gape easily. If you have a man or boy in the family do him a favor and add a snap to the fly on his pajamas. You can also just replace a button with a snap. You will still see the button hole stitching above and below the snap front, but if you center it well, the prongs of the snap will hold the buttonhole shut.

Once you use these, you will probably never sew on a snap again. The only reason to sew a snap is if you MUST have it not show.

You can also install small eyelets with these. It's hard to mess up an eyelet, just make a tiny hole first and push the eyelet into the hole, then use the pliers to spread and fold the back edges.

The head swivels so you have either the button snap side or the eyelet post. The front snap pusher is plastic so it doesn't mar the surface of the snap.

When you use them for snaps, there are little rubber rings that holds the snap parts on the pliers. As long as you center them well and don't let the fabric pull them off center, they mount very easily and I've never had one come off. They have never aged, no matter how many times I've washed them and worn the garments. Out of the hundreds I've used, I've had a couple lose their grip because one of the center grippers got bent, but you can usually just bend it back. If that doesn't work just pull it off and add a replacement of that part.

Snaps are so much faster and easier to mount than sewing buttons and buttonholes, they are also much easier to use for fingers that aren't nimble from age or injury. Small children also have a much easier time with snaps than buttons. You can also use a snap with one hand. If something catches the fabric and it gets pulled open, a button could come off or break (or worse, it might hold so well that the fabric tears), where a snap just unsnaps with no damage and you can snap it back. It's also kind of sexy that my shirts can be removed by just 'ripping' them open. You certainly can't do that with buttons.

It has potential
This tool is built solid and tough... It has rubber handle grips and really seems capable of doing more than just putting snaps on clothing like errr maybe removing lugnuts from my tire or even some heavy plumbing work or something... I'm not going to give this product a bad review because of my problem with getting it to work right... I've followed the instructions and really everything should be very simple but whenever I install a button/snap on my clothing or hats (Yeah, I'm trendy like that) it ends up pulling apart very easily... I blame it more on the button/snap maker using cheap material that bends easier than a paper clip...

Ther must be a better way
I just bought this kit and even as a well educated person, and someone who does a lot of sewing and crafts, these directions are difficult to understand at best. I wish they would show more pictures of exactly how the rubber rings fit on, and how the snap pieces fit within them. I have tried every way possible, and the one that seems to match the directions the best does not produce good results because the rubber rings get in the way. They either cause one or both parts of the snap to move as the pliers are closed, and the snap does not line up right, or it gets the rubber ring caught between the snap pieces when squeezed together. There must be a better way to install snaps easily and quickly. I will keep trying it to see if practice makes perfect, but for a busy mom of 3 little ones, I would rather spend my time on more important things than figuring out how to get the snap pliers to work well. I may look into getting another tool, even if it's more expensive.
